Meet Colleen Mahoney,LCSW,CADC,PCGC
Founder | Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hi, I’m Colleen. I’m so glad you are here!
I am a therapist and the founder of Mighty Minds Therapy Center, a practice that is committed to helping clients create meaningful change and live more fulfilling lives through integrated, holistic treatment.
Some of the most common presenting concerns I work with are addiction, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, grief, and general life stressors.
My goal is to build a comfortable, supportive environment where clients can work through the challenges that keep them from living fully. I am not here to offer quick fixes. I am here to ensure that the time and energy you invest in yourself leads to real, meaningful change. Together, we’ll discover what’s holding you back and work toward long-term solutions. We’ll work together to understand the patterns shaping your struggles so you can move forward with clarity and purpose.
Seeking therapy doesn’t mean you’ve failed, and reaching out is never a sign of weakness. Just as you might invest in a coach, trainer, or advisor, therapy is an investment in your well-being and future.
You have worked hard for this life, you deserve to enjoy it.
Therapeutic Approach
I am a collaborative, strengths-based therapist who is dedicated to supporting each client’s mental health and personal growth. I bring empathy, understanding, and a non-judgmental approach to every session.
I work alongside clients to help them reach their goals using evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Immediately prior to starting Mighty Minds Therapy Center, Colleen worked at a group practice helping clients with a variety of mental health challenges and addictions. Prior to working in group practice and private practice, Colleen worked at Rogers Behavioral Health. She worked in various PHP and IOP programs during her time there, which included the adult OCD and Anxiety program, adult Depression program, and adult PTSD program. Prior to her work with Rogers Behavioral Health, Colleen worked at Symetria Recovery as a counselor helping those struggling with co-occurring disorders-addiction & mental health struggles.
Colleen completed a Masters in Social Work degree and Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling from Loyola University of Chicago. She completed two graduate level internships. Colleen completed her first graduate level internship at Willow House, a grief agency that supports individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one. She completed her second graduate level internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Harborview Recovery Center working with individuals struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.
She also completed her Problem and Compulsive Gambling Counselor (PCGC) certification through the Illinois Council on Problem Gambling.
Education & Credentials
Beyond the Therapy Room
When she’s not in the therapy room, she’s working as a personal trainer or doing her own strength training. She’s likely enjoying a chai tea latte, on a long walk, or exploring new neighborhoods in and around Chicago. She loves watching/listening to true crime and saying yes to any chance for adventure or travel. She puts hot sauce on just about everything, and she can happily unwind watching her favorite TV shows. Spending quality time with family and friends is one of her favorite ways to recharge.
